Love, Patience, and Pawprints: Life with Four Pets

When I brought home four pets — two dogs and two cats — I thought I was filling my house with fun. And I did. But I also filled it with responsibility: vet visits, hairballs, barking at the mailman, muddy pawprints. Some days I wonder what I was thinking.

But then, every single one of them curls up next to me when I’m sad, or dances around the door when I get home, or follows me from room to room just to be near me. They’ve taught me patience, reminded me that love always requires effort, and shown me how important it is to have something — someone — to care for. Hard work, yes. Worth it, absolutely.

This is a test story based on a weekly One Story at a Time prompt at ProjectImproveMe.com

Why Pen Your Past?

I started Pen Your Past as a sister project to Project: Improve Me. Over there, I share prompts to help women capture their lives one small story at a time. But here, it’s different. Pen Your Past is about connection — a place to share short stories with other women, to collect the little pieces of life that matter, and to pass them on.

Journaling is for yourself. Story Pebbles are for each other.
